It does appear like she’s rather snobby and not a very nice boss to work for, as most reports of her bad behavior come from on-set personnel and not from her fellow celebrities. As for the toxic workplace atmosphere… she acknowledges it, but places the blame elsewhere, with no reflection on her own behavior whatsoever. Honestly she created a hostile working environment and it finally caught up with her. She’s not a nice person just an act from what I personally saw. It wasn’t cancelled. At most it’s a tempest in a teapot. A business isn’t going to hold your hand and make nice, and bosses aren’t always wonderful supportive people. Sometimes they hold others to the same standards they hold themselves to and it’s more than someone not owning a piece wants to put in. The entire television business is in trouble, including shows that can’t afford to pay the expense of running a show. Oprah quit running a daytime show years ago. WHY? Because she had to spend lavishly to keep the production values of the show up and the advertising couldn’t support a luxury show of hers anymore. See, Coronavirus didn’t tear down television by itself. Television was already on its way there years ago.
However, as she is from Louisiana it is quite likely that she has French heritage. The name DeGeneres is French which adds to the evidence that she may have French ancestry. I honestly loved Ellen in the beginning. Watched her HBO special multiple times and found her to be down-to-earth, compassionate, genuine and caring. I’ve been watching her show since the first episode. With that said, I’ve noticed over the past two seasons that she has become increasingly greedy and her show is no longer about the jokes or celebrities or helping people. Instead, it seems to be about stoking her ego, and has turned into a running commercial for the Ellen show products she sells, her new games in the App Store, her Ed by Ellen line, her Vegas slot machines, and her new show (I believe it’s called Game of Games). Anyone who comes to her show only worships her and she just seems to be really full of herself now. I don’t enjoy that as much, so for those reasons, I do find her over-rated. She is sometimes funny and I appreciate what she does for others (despite her partnership with awful corporations like Walmart), but some humility and less product selling would go a long way in making the show less tiresome to watch. I actually find myself fast-forwarding through a lot of it now, especially when audience members practically throw themselves on the ground while screaming and crying in excitement; no one needs that kind of enthusiasm. Haha. (Not Ellen’s fault, of course.)
At the end of the day, I don’t know if Ellen Degeneres is a bad person or not — many people seem to have that experience, especially celebrities early on in their careers; those who already ‘have it made’, tend to be treated cordially and respectfully by her. Of course we cannot judge any book by its covers, and there has not been a lawsuit against her yet — just some ‘internal investigations’. With no ‘hard evidence’ either way, and only statements from disgruntled (former) employees and showbizz figures, I’m not going to go ‘cancel’ the woman. That said, there are a LOT of accusations, and some come from highly credibly and respectable producers, actors and entertainment industry figures. Accusations and rumors of her bad behavior go back many years, so it’s not an a case of an isolated incident. I’ll just sit tight and see what else gets spilled. And I suppose, I’ll just sip this tea a little longer!
